Sunlit Coral (2170-60) on Nursery Walls and Ceiling

Upper West Side Apartment Painter

The Rochester Institute of Technology, 332 miles northwest of the Big Apple, offers a master of science degree in Color Science. According to its website, it’s “a unique master’s degree that decodes how humans perceive and interact with color, providing limitless real-world applications. At the only university in the nation offering this program of study, you will be exposed to the rich, dynamic field of color science through theory and practical application.” Now there’s a graduate program that seriously looks fascinating and fun.

We just love when clients go bold with color. This family had their new home painted before moving in, and we used nine colors throughout the spaces. Every newly painted wall in every room radiated energy and emotion as we brushed and rolled the new colors. Some of us might even have been humming a lively tune as we worked.

Imagine a wee one, fairly new to our world, waking up enveloped in this bold, cheerful shade of pink. Benjamin Moore has named it Sunlit Coral, for having a whisper of orange mingled into a courageous and striking fuchsia color. This was one very vibrant, energetic, happy project, for what we suspect is one very vibrant, energetic, happy family, with an abundant measure of bold and beautiful throughout their new home.

Painting Over Gel Stained Trim

Brownstone Molding Painter

There is something to be said for natural wood – the warmth, history, grain, original, the genuine article. As wonderful as that all sounds, old trim with a dark stain can dull a space, especially molding which has multiple coats of old gel stain on it. The new owner of this brownstone was understandably conflicted between restoring the wide, solid molding to its former glory and brightening the space with new paint.

The good news is that freshly painted trim in this classic style – broad, thick, substantial molding with rosette corners – retains the architectural character while freshening the room. High quality, solid wood casings like these are just as beautiful dressed in white because the grooves, corner rosettes and panels below the windows retain their sculptured style.

Gel stain is a wonderful, oil-based, varnish product. It is thicker than traditional wood stain and rests on the wood rather than being absorbed into it. It does, however, present a challenge to the most professional of painters when it no longer fits the overall décor scheme. Sanding is step two – protecting floors and anything else in the room or adjacent spaces is always step one. It takes considerable sanding to work through the gel stain and/or scuff it enough to accept the appropriate primer which serves as a bonding agent between the newly prepped trim and its bright new paint coats. We completed this job on a tight deadline for the new owner’s move-in date, and the radiant result quite perfectly exudes a stately style.

Midtown East Wainscoting Design and Installation

There are many ways to add character and class to your home, and one is designing wall molding in a shape, style and texture that fits your taste in interior décor. This Manhattan family had a new home and wanted to add some style with decorative molding on the walls before moving in. They also asked us to remove some ugly built-in shelving as well.

Trim, wainscoting and molding come in many widths with designs in the wood. From elegant narrow strips to chunky wide layers, 3-D wall molding transforms any room from dull to dignified, mundane to marvelous. Life in Manhattan has an energetic vibe and an unparalleled diversity in people, food, cultures and opportunities. After a busy day in and around the ever-humming hustle, it’s nice to go home to comfy rooms that wrap you in friendly, intimate spaces.

The clients were not sure how to approach the project, so we brought them six samples of molding profiles which would add a sophisticated statement to the living room and the den. They selected different ones for each room and settled on the design. Then we set to work measuring and marking the walls for accuracy and level before cutting the trim to fit. Molding installation calls for meticulous craftsmanship using levels, rulers and T-squares to assure everything lines up perfectly square and perfectly parallel. Following that is priming and painting, also to perfection. These interior walls exude a level of grace and dignity that enhances the overall ambience and visual appeal. When the project was complete, each room was now all dressed up, even without furniture, rugs and lamps.

Tribeca Penthouse Painting

Manhattan Penthouse Painting Contractor

When new homeowners select Tribeca for their neighborhood and a 3-level penthouse for their home, it only stands to reason they would connect with Paintworks, perhaps the most experienced and professional painting and wallpapering team in and around the Big Apple. Just imagine a 3-story, open staircase and the distances needed to reach with a paint brush or roller. It’s definitely an acrobatic kind of feat, but always with stability and precision in the planning. And planning and prep can consume a large part of a project like this.

You might roll your eyes at such an undertaking, but we get excited. We make things happen and paint everything from water towers and steel structures to kitchens and baths, stores, home interiors and exteriors and nurseries for wee babies. We protect railings and floors and haul in ladders, scaffolding, extension handles, primer, paint, gear and the strong arms and keen eyes needed for every roll and every brush stroke along the way. This family is settling in their new home with stairway walls a blank slate for their choice of wall décor and style.

Brooklyn Historic House Painter

The historic neighborhoods in New York City are loaded with character and architecture that melds old and new, vintage with modern. As one family was preparing to move into a charming house constructed in the late 1800s, they had the foresight to paint ahead of time while spaces were empty. This room sports a stunning original hardwood floor, which would have been common in the new build more than a century ago.

Picture rail molding near ceilings serves many purposes, hanging art from wires among them. It lends an antique style element along with the visual benefit of making the ceiling appear larger. The contemporary, monochromatic strategy of painting the trim and baseboards the same as the walls creates a seamless warmth which can be complemented comfortably with wall decor, fabrics and furnishings. This Sherwin-Williams Niebla Azul is a sophisticated grayish-blue with green undertones. The room evokes dignity and safety, and the neighborhood boasts one of the most iconic parks in the Big Apple. Welcome home.
