West Village Baseboard Installation

New baseboard in final installation stage.

New baseboard installation in process

Manhattan Baseboard Molding Carpentry

Dyke’s Lumber Company started in 1909, the same year The New York Times published its first movie review (for Pippa Passes, a silent movie which ran 14 minutes and 10 seconds). Carrying on its 114-year tradition of quality materials, excellent service and integrity, Dykes is often our go-to choice for superior molding and trim products. Fine quality baseboards and expert craftsmanship are required for the final seamless appearance.

Baseboards serve more purposes and functions than many people realize and installing all new ones takes a precision approach to that visible, perpendicular contact point between wall and floor. It takes time, patience and a variety of tools to remove old baseboards. Then we evaluate damage, uneven wallboard or flooring, old paint or crusty caulking and devise a comprehensive plan to prep everything for new baseboards. There’s measuring, cutting, cornering, nailing and caulking, as well as priming and  painting the new baseboard molding. Handsome baseboards enhance the overall appearance in any room, and combined with perfectly skim-coated walls and new flooring, this living room in West Village evokes a distinctive comfy, classy ambiance.

After old baseboard removed, many tasks to clean up before new baseboard installed.

Among the many challenges of exterior painting is weather. We cannot paint in rain, sleet, snow or temperatures under 38 degrees. According to Benjamin Moore, painting projects can be accomplished between 35 and 100 degrees, with 77 being optimal. Other considerations include humidity, direct sunshine and paint temperature. Ideally, the paint and outdoor temps should be the same.

Our special project for Cult Gaia’s new Soho flagship store to open in 3 days included ordering dry, warm-enough weather, removing graffiti and prepping the stunning outdoor entranceway for coats of brilliant, clean, fresh, white paint. The weather finally cooperated. We sent over a 7-person crew with a boom lift and all the paint and gear needed to get this incredible shop’s street front portal dazzling, like the merchandise inside, and we had 72 hours to do it.

Launched in 2012, Cult Gaia designs for “someone who is really easygoing, effortless, pays attention to subtle details. Her statement pieces are her accessories. She puts her bag in bed at night. She loves luxury, but doesn’t think she needs $7,000 to obtain that.” The fashions are “objets d’art” with the goal “to curate a wardrobe full of magic, one that glows with each accessory.” Shopping here is classy, stunning, unique and inspiring. Painting here was the same. Taking the once mottled, neglected, classic corner entry  architecture back to its glory and radiance was as formidable as it was satisfying.

Union Square Office Painter

Manhattan Workplace Painting Contractor

Multiple studies on work place environments all point to increased job productivity, satisfaction and performance in a clean, bright space. Additionally, attractive office surroundings can be a positive influence factor in reducing turnover. This new tech start-up company in Manhattan values its employees and strives to provide a pleasant, sleek, modern workplace with abundant natural daylight.

A huge part of any project, especially painting and maybe even moreso spray painting, is preparation. Activating the nozzle and being experienced in operating the equipment is imperative, but frequently protecting the surrounding spaces is equally essential.

And we work in many large spaces, like this one. The volume of plastic, brown masking paper and tape can be considerable. Once we covered floors, windows and anything which was not to be painted, we expertly applied jet black paint to the ceilings and ductwork. It matches their corporate branding and interior furnishings.

Then we painted the walls all white to provide maximum natural light reflection and the perfect contemporary contrast. We are professional painters, wallpaper hangers and interior construction contractors on the move, but if we were office operatives, we’d like to work here. Union Square is a very cool neighborhood, and Union Square Greenmarket is an awesome farmer’s market open year round. From milk, eggs and maple syrup to beef, pork, chicken, farm fresh produce and more, the market is a fantastic place to support small scale farming and the regional farmers who bring fresh food to market, for all of us.

Manhattan Mirrored Wall Removal and Repair

Sutton Place Painting and Renovations

Mirrors can enlarge spaces and make rooms feel brighter. If large enough, they can overwhelm any space and the people in it, feeling like life is taking place in a carnival hall of mirrors. The largest hall of mirrors in the world was completed in 1684 in the Palace at Versailles outside Paris. It runs 240 feet long with unparalleled grandeur in art, windows and mirrors adorning the walls and ceiling.

Well, this Manhattan client was not at all interested in the massive mirrored walls in their new home in Sutton Place. We thought the place felt more like an automobile showroom ourselves and tired quickly of seeing our own reflections. Removing glass this gigantic out of the home and building took lots of careful maneuvering before setting about removing all the adhesive. Once that was cleaned, patched and primed, we painted it an elegant neutral with Silverpointe, a soothing soft gray from Sherwin-Williams. Now that’s a homey touch which promptly warmed the room.

Lower East Side Scraping and Plastering

What do sneakers, paint, heat pumps, teddy bears, plaster and wood fences have in common? They all experience significant wear and tear across 25 years. Some need replacing. Some can be fixed. And in the case of paint and plaster, all can be made like new! This apartment in Manhattan was ready for the “make-it-new” outcome. Protecting furniture, fixtures and floors is imperative in our line work, and here we had a grand piano in the mix.

Once things were wrapped and covered, we scraped and scraped and scraped some more. Ceilings are always a challenge, but our arms are strong, our eyes are keen, and our experience is vast. The whole place, walls included, needed work, and when working with plaster, using the correct plaster weld product ensures that new plaster will bond well and hold a long time – ideally another 25 years. We skim coated ceilings and walls before applying final coats of paint. The client was thrilled with the results. We were thrilled with the whole project, especially not to have gotten a flake or spot of anything on the grand piano.

Flaking paint on your pillow, anyone? We fixed this ceiling like new.

Not exactly what you want to come home to, right? Right. We made it all new again.
