Maintain Your common spaces with Fresh Handrail Paint

When it comes to home improvement projects, sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. One such underrated yet impactful project is painting handrails. Whether it's your staircase, balcony, or porch, painting handrails can instantly transform the look and feel of your space. We recently painted the walls, ceiling and handrails in this building stairwell. They wanted to refresh the common area.

Why Paint Your Handrails?

Handrails are not just functional elements but also significant aesthetic components of your home's architecture. Over time, handrails can become worn out, chipped, or discolored due to exposure to the elements. Painting your handrails not only enhances their appearance but also provides essential protection against rust, corrosion, and weathering.

Ceiling Build Out For New Electrical 10065

ceiling complete

The heart of a home is often its kitchen, a place not only for cooking but for gathering, sharing, and creating memories. When a client approached us with the challenge of rejuvenating their Upper East Side kitchen, we were excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work, knowing the potential that lay within those four walls.

The kitchen's original state was a tapestry of past decades, adorned with wallpaper that had seen better days and fixtures that whispered tales of the past. Our task was to bring this culinary space into the present with a seamless blend of functionality and style.

Building a drop ceiling requires framing with metal studs first. Since the ceiling is concrete, the building doesn’t allow new lights directly in the ceiling. It doesn’t want any cutting into the ceiling. As the framing took shape, so too did the vision of a kitchen reborn.

Before we started

The installation of drywall came next, a meticulous process where our expertise in creating smooth, seamless surfaces came into play. We then moved onto the removal of the old, peeling wallpaper—an exercise in patience and precision. The walls were treated to a careful plastering, sanding down any rough edges, and preparing them for their final act.

Framing and drywalling. Taping the new drywall. Plaster with 3 coats. Prime and paint.

Mid way

The result? A kitchen is not merely updated but reborn, ready to play its part as the center of the home. This Upper East Side renovation is a testament to what can be achieved when expertise meets aspiration.

Beadboard Wall Paneling Install in Bedstuy Brownstone

There are many positive angles to creating a dedicated room for a nursery when a baby is on the way. It keeps all the baby supplies in one place, and provides a familiar place as the wee one grows and begins looking around and taking in the sights. Coming into the nursery can evoke, even in a baby and small child, a sense of comfort and safety. When this client learned the news of a baby arrival, renovating a dull bedroom to a sweet nursery became a priority.

To classy up the room, we installed the beadboard version of wainscoting. Often interchanged words with no harm done, wainscoting refers to wall paneling in many styles, and beadboard is one of them. It is a charming vertical tongue-and-groove arrangement of boards that adds a lovely flair to any wall. The small indentation between boards is the “bead”, and the top and bottom are finished with horizontal molding, the cap rail at the top and baseboard at the bottom. Today, independent wood pieces may be manufactured in sheets, and not all beadboard is made of wood. Here the cap rail and the baseboard are in matching wood style and color.

We expertly painted the beadboard, cap rail and baseboard with Raindance 1572 from Benjamin Moore. It’s a soothing medium gray with both blue and green depth. While the first words spoken by babies are usually mama, dada, baba and bye-bye, we think this little one might blurt out beadboard. It’s close to the standard words, two syllables, repetitive hard consonant. Taking this space from boring bedroom to nurturing nursery was a practical project with a refreshing result.

Brooklyn Heights Painting and Floor Refinishing

Refreshing Walls, Trim and Brazilian Cherry Floors

When you connect the dots between a small grocery store in Sweden founded in 1919, coffee and floor polish, what do you get? Well, in a stunning turn of events, the floor product takes center stage. Wilhelm Edner founded the food shop and loved more than anything selling coffee to his customers. He made a protective polishing agent named “bonvax” for wood floors. In 1953, the floor sealer now known as Bona was introduced in the European floor market. Six years later, Bona had its own building in Sweden, and 19 years later, a plant opened in Germany, expanding the product line along the way.

In 1987, Bona entered the U.S. market, first available to professionals, and in 2002, for sale to consumers. Fast forward to 2023 when a Brooklyn Heights family was craving some interior updates after years in this residence. We moved all the furniture to refinish these exotic Brazilian cherry hardwood floors with Bona’s superior products. Sanding floors is intensive work. Getting all those minute particles removed before applying sealer and clear finish coats is equally demanding. Our teams are experienced in all facets of floor refinishing, and they glow almost as much as the beautifully-revived wood grain when the job is done.

But this project was not yet done. We went on to paint the walls, trim and living room built-ins before placing the furniture back where we first found it. We were especially cautious to protect the kids’ height markers on their door frame, so they can marvel that they were once so short. And their parents marvel at the sensational transformation in their home with newly rejuvenated hardwood floors and freshly painted walls and trim. We marvel that more than 100 years ago a man in Sweden who loved coffee ended up launching a global floor product business.

The_Ap_art_ment™

One of the four islands comprising the French West Indies, St Barth (aka St. Barts) was settled by the French in 1648. It was traded to Sweden for four short years and today, the rich and famous from around the world seek out the spectacular natural beauty, European and Caribbean ambience and luxury accommodations. From this sensationally exotic, volcanic island, three women passionate about art formed Space Gallery St Barth in 2011. Seven years later, they launched a permanent gallery in New York City.

The style of this inclusive art space, designed by Susann Eva Goerg of happyhomes.co, includes fully furnished rooms where visitors linger. Art is displayed in home-like settings for envisioning art on the wall next to the bed or across living room. There’s a report afoot which relates that people look at art for only 29 seconds before walking away. Here, in this more cozy interior, recently painted and wallpapered by our experienced crew, shoppers are inclined to linger. And they do. Far more than 29 seconds.

It’s a little haven, much like St Barth, where the people are warm, you are welcome, and the city hustle is on pause. We used high quality paint products from Farrow & Ball, along with unique wallpaper, to jazz up the space. From the clever trademarked The_Ap_art_ment™ title and exquisite furnishings to the strategically-positioned lighting and colors, the carefully curated art seeks out a new home, a new client, a repeat appreciator - much like a kitten or puppy chooses its owner, despite many pet owners still crediting themselves. Art can speak, and it definitely has a voice at Space Gallery St Barth.
