Building Custom RFID Shielding Cabinets for UGG stores

Much like UGG being on the cutting edge of California’s casual surf culture in the late 1970s, the internationally-known brand hovers on the high tech edge with its sale processing technology. One Australian surfer who loved sheepskin founded the company, convinced that people the world over would adore the soft texture and creamy color of sheepskin around their feet and ankles. More than 25 years later, the first brick and mortar store opened in New York City, followed by shops around the world.

We recently built RFID closets for the UGG store at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, N.J., and UGG Australia in East Rutherford, N.J. Our job was to custom cut and assemble these tall cabinets from scratch, complete with hinges and a front locking mechanism. Radio Frequency Identification, aka RFID, refers to reading digital data in RFID tags or labels via radio waves. One advantage over bar codes is that there does not need to be a visual line from scanner to bar code. Additionally, RFID tags can hold much more information, and human intervention is reduced or eliminated. Keeping their customers and staff safe is a priority at UGG, along with maintaining safeguards for digital data. It’s all in lockstep with their warm and fuzzy reputation, with a high tech twist.
