Basement Wood Paneling Spraying

This client was looking to updated their wood paneled basement with a fresh start. We love spraying projects and were happy to jump on board. After covering the floors with brown construction paper we began spraying the paneling with Fresh Start Primer. After 2 coats of primer we moved to the finish coats. 2 coats of finish had this basement feeling renewed. It brightened up the space and gave the basement a more contemporary feel. The finished looks great. We paint it all!

Co-op Interior Painting Manhattan

This client called us days before closing on a home in the historic west village area of Manhattan. We love that he chose to go with a light gray for trim and against the off white walls. It’s a nice contrast that is unique. We were able to get co-op approval extremely fast and paint before he moved in.

Gramercy Park Home Painter

In effort to sell this property in a timely fashion Halstead Realty and the owners decided to freshen up the place with a paint job so the property would show better. The NYC apartment hadn’t been painted in over 20 years and it showed. One day of intense plastering and painting got the condo back to near mint condition. The client chose Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White which works perfectly with the condo’s large living room windows. We always use Benjamin Moore Aura Bath and Spa in the bathroom to help protect the walls and ceiling from heat and humidity. We’re always grateful and happy to paint in the beautiful Union Square area.

Farrow & Ball Floor Painter

This apartment inside a converted commercial building has space for such unique possibilities. This couple wanted to liven up their dinged up white wood floor. We started by cleaning the entire floor then put a primer on top. After it dried we applied the first coat of Farrow & Ball paint. After it dried we applied a second coat. You can see the difference in the middle picture. The finished product looks smooth and sleek and goes perfectly with their new kitchen cabinets and furniture. Paint has so many possibilities and capabilities. Instead of refinishing their floor they gave it a unique color and new life. We loved the opportunity to be apart of this creative remodel!

Painting Exterior Cornices

The New York Times have called roof cornices 'The Crowning Glory’ of NYC architecture in the Early 20th century. Yet these historic pieces of architectural ingenuity have largely disappeared from modern building practices. Built of galvanized iron, copper and terra cotta, the cornice was the cherry on top of NYC beautiful historic buildings. The Brooks Brothers building, at Madison and 44th Street is a superb example of a refined cornice. Sadly, the anti-cornice movement goes hand in hand with the “who-cares” tide of NYC architecture. Buildings after building were made in “modern” designs, seeking to become taller and sleeker. This makes cornice placement difficult.

In today’s world the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development has adopted a cornice restoration plan as part of its overall housing strategy in the Harlem and Hamilton Heights area. Cassandra A. Vernon, an agency spokeswoman urges developers to include cornices in their designs. She seeks to encourage people to repair and replace cornices on rehabilitated buildings.

Paintworks and Decorating is proud to be one of the few companies experienced to handle this delicate restoration. We see cornices as a major piece of NYC architectural history and wish to keep the artistic tradition alive. The very soul of New York has slowly been deteriorated by the destruction of some of our most historic constructions. With our 25 years of experience we seek to maintain NYC’s rich art and history.

With the easy renting of one scissor lift the our team can restore your historic building's details to their former glory. With a few precise coats of Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior premium paint your cornice will last for future generations to appreciate and admire.

Repainting the Kith Shoe Store in Park Slope

We are very proud to have painted spaces inside of the alluring KITH store in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Kith emphasizes the creative drive of New York City. The fashion boutique provides sneaker heads and fashionistas with the newest and most innovative styles known to date. To be able to contribute to the beauty of such a creative force was an honor.

Our first area to work on was the foyer. Due to ever changing seasons and promotions, the front foyer was looking a little worn. We proceeded to patch all holes in walls and ceilings left by previous window displays. We then painted the walls and ceilings with Benjamin Moore Scuff X. This paint is built to withstand high traffic. We also painted the black cashier station and painted the back hallway behind the checkout station. We used Scuff X again in the back hallway for the high amount of people running in and out of hallway carrying items. The Scuff X paint is resistant to all types of scuffs/run ins and is easily cleanable. This is the only paint ideal for retail and commercial areas. At the end of the day it was a lot of fun to paint such iconic fashion retailer in the beautiful Park Slope area.

Painting Homes For Resale NYC

In late Spring we painted this charming one bedroom apartment in the Midtown West area of Manhattan. The apartment has gorgeous soffits in the ceiling and beautiful extended crown molding that we wanted to highlight. The client went with Benjamin Moore's Stone White on the walls and a White Satin creating a nice calm contrast to compliment the natural light. The owner was about to put the apartment on the market but the place needed a little love to give it more pop. We love helping people brighten up their homes whether its to live in or to pass to a new owner. Looking for a quick easy way to make your home ready to sell? Painting the home is a great and efficient way to transform it and can usually be accomplished in one day!

Upper West Side Manhattan Bathroom Painter

When repainting bathrooms there are multiple factors to consider. After the color choices have been narrowed down it is time to consider the lighting of the bathroom. Is there natural light? What kind of glow are the light bulbs giving off? Warm and yellow? Or cool and white? Once the color samples are held or swatched to the wall in all various types of light and at different times of the day the next factor to consider is the durability of the paint. We always recommend Benjamin Moore Aura Bath and Spa that is specially formulated to withstand the everyday heat and humidity of a bathroom. If the bathroom doesn't feature a shower/tub or a different type of paint is chosen just be sure that the room can be ventilated properly so that no bubbles in the paint form. We recently repainted a hallway half bathroom in a brand new building in the Upper West Side. The client chose a striking Farrow & Ball paint color that contrasts very well with the ceiling and the mirror wall. We have been painting apartment bathrooms in NYC for over 25 years but this is one of our favorites because of the modern distinguished look and feel of the space. NYC Painter: Beautiful Midtown East Apartment

Midtown East Repainted apartment.jpg

This week we had the privilege of painting the interior of a beautiful one bedroom apartment in the Midtown East area. The client chose Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl paint color to give the apartment a relaxed modern look that went exceptionally well with the hardwood floors and the kitchen counters. The freshly painted white trim gives the space clean lines and a refreshed feeling. The change from boring beige to Gray Owl brought new life into an apartment that features many windows.
